An innovative new exercise facility designed to encourage exercise participation in older adults and to support the rehabilitation needs of those living with long term health conditions has opened at the Tudno Health & Welbeing Hub within the Ty Hapus Resource Centre in Llandudno.
Operated by the Tudno Community Association, the new facility boasts eight power assisted exercise machines from UK Manufacturer, Shapemaster. Centre Manager, Jayne Black commented, “We are so excited to be introducing this facility to the people of Llandudno as we know it will benefit so many older adults and those living with long term health conditions”.
The facility has been an ongoing project for over two years with both Conwy County Borough Council & the Welsh Government supporting funds to get it up and running.
The specialist equipment adopted by the facility enables users to exercise passively or actively, depending on their abilities.
Jayne added, “Power assisted exercise not only provides excellent health and wellbeing benefits for user’s but it also encourages social engagement, a vital ingredient certainly for our ageing population. Research tells us that 46% of users indicate social engagement as their primary reason for visiting a facility like this is”.
The centre was initially planned to open 18th March but because of increased interest had to open a week early to meet demand. Jayne added, ““We are absolutely staggered by the interest we have received from members in all corners of the community, most notably those living with long term health conditions such as Fibromyalgia, Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson’s and those who have experienced stroke”. Members are telling us they are feeling the benefits already!
